Specialty Certifications

Continue developing expertise beyond the core Levels 1–5 pathway through ASCA specialty education and certification opportunities.

Provides practical, research-based education for understanding and applying strength and conditioning principles within a swimming program.

Developed by Charlie Hoolihan, ASCA’s Swimming Strength and Conditioning Specialist Coordinator, the course draws on his extensive experience in swimming, strength training, and athlete development. Hoolihan has been strength training swimmers since 1990 and is a national presenter and author on fitness, strength, and conditioning.

Designed specifically for swim coaches, the course explores stability, injury resilience, strength, power, exercise selection, programming, and periodization while connecting gym-based training to performance in the pool. Coaches gain practical knowledge they can use to safely and effectively integrate strength and conditioning into their overall training program.

The Swimming Performance Analyst Certification Course is an intensive, hands-on program led by world-renowned biomechanist and performance analyst Russell Mark.

Drawing on nearly 25 years of experience supporting athletes and coaches from developmental swimming through NCAA programs and Olympic champions, Russell teaches participants the methods he uses for stroke video analysis, race data collection and analysis, and delivering meaningful feedback to athletes and coaches.

This six-week cohort course combines weekly meetings, instructor feedback, self-paced learning, and practical application, giving participants the opportunity to learn and practice real-world swimming performance analysis techniques directly with Russell.
